Our management team possesses well over 100 years of combined energy industry experience from previous work at companies including GE Oil & Gas, Compressor Systems, Inc., Weatherford Global Compression Services, Duke Energy, Conoco Phillips, and Valerus.
B.J. Ellis
President and Chief Executive Officer
One of the most respected authorities in the gas lift compression industry, B.J. Ellis, has over 20 years of experience in the natural gas compression. Prior to joining Flatrock, he was a senior strategic account manager at Valerus Compression Services. B.J. also served as compression/transportation operations manager for Quicksilver Resources and lead field service technician for both Hanover and Universal Compression.
As president of LiftRock Integrated Services, B.J. invented the advanced QuickSet™ Skid-Mounted Gas Lift Compression Control System, later to become the Optimizer™ Gas Lift Optimization Skid.
Caleb Rohm
Chief Finacial Officer
Caleb Rohm has 15 years of accounting and finance experience in the oil and gas industry. Prior to coming to Flatrock, Caleb served as the Chief Financial Officer for an Oil and Gas construction company operating in the Barnett Shale, Eagle Ford Shale, and Permian Basin. Caleb’s experience and aptitude are critical to Flatrock successfully navigating the marketplace. Caleb holds a BBA in Finance from the University of Texas at Arlington and an MBA from the Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University
Channa Parkinson
Vice President of Safety and Administration
Channa Parkinson brings over 17 years of experience in safety management and administrative leadership to the position of Vice President of Safety and Administration at Flatrock. In this role, Channa oversees the development and implementation of safety protocols and administrative policies, ensuring the safety and efficiency of the company’s workplace.Ms. Parkinson began her career at Flatrock in 2019 and has held various leadership positions within the company, in many ways contributing to the company’s growth and success.
Mickala Murdock
Director of Human Resources
Mickala Murdock has 18 years of business experience with a strong focus on organizational development. Prior to coming to Flatrock, Mickala served as the Director of Human Resources and Organizational Development for the parent company of a diverse group of subsidiary companies, including oilfield services. She is passionate about equipping employees for success and committed to establishing a culture of readiness. Mickala takes a strategic, collaborative approach to building business and technical training programs that are a driving force in closing achievement gaps.
Mickala holds a B.S. in Organizational Management from Lubbock Christian University and is a Certified Professional with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM-CP). She also graduated from The University of Texas Permian Basin with a M.A. in Educational Leadership.
Matt Rush
Vice President of Operations
Matt Rush brings over 15 years of experience to his role as Flatrock Compression’s Vice President of Operations. Matt previously worked for both USA Compression and CDM Resource Management, holding positions in operations, asset management, and supply chain management. He has successfully led teams in supply logistics, process improvements, organizational efficiencies, and overall improved cost management.
Before becoming Flatrock’s Vice President of Operations, Matt managed the implementation of the company’s first Computerized Maintenance Management Software. Matt is also a combat veteran, serving in the United States Marine Corps.
Jeremy Waldinger
Director of Operations
Jeremy Waldinger started working in the oil and gas industry 17+ years ago as a field technician, eventually working his way to the position of operations manager. Today, Jeremy serves as Director of Operations at Liftrock Integrated Lift Services.
Through his nearly two decades in the industry, Jeremy has worked in several states, including Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, and New Mexico. Jeremy’s experience working in various basins makes him a key resource for the Flatrock management team.
Doug McClung
Director of Data and Analytics
Doug McClung brings almost 25 years of oil and gas, data engineering and data management experience to his position as Director of Data and Analytics at Flatrock Compression. In this role, McClung will be responsible for fostering a culture of data-driven decision making by automating data delivery and integration.
Doug is a 1996 graduate of the University of Houston with a degree in Management Information Systems. He later earned an MBA from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin.
David Stone
Account Manager
David Stone brings 20 years of experience in the natural gas compression industry, primarily focused on Permian Basin operations. Before joining Flatrock, David was a Senior Account Manager at Compressor Systems Inc., leading a results-oriented team focused on meeting customer compression requirements. David has also project-managed the installation of a wide range of gas lift compression systems.
David has served as President of the Natural Gas Society and Natural Gas Producers Association, in addition to serving on several other industry association boards. David holds a Master’s Degree in Science from Angelo State University
Kevin Zappe
Account Manager
A Flatrock employee since 2005, Kevin Zappe brings more than 21 years of experience in the oil and gas industry to his role at Flatrock Compression. Before joining Flatrock, Kevin had previously worked at Parker & Parsley and National Oilwell.
Kevin applies his extensive oil and gas experience to working with customers to meet their gas lift compression objectives. Kevin has completed courses at Texas A&M’s Mays Business School and studies in business administration at the University of Houston.
Board of Directors
The Flatrock Board of Directors contributes a broad range of business expertise and experience in support of the company’s operation. Board members have been integrally involved in the oil and gas industry, including drilling and completion operations, natural gas gathering and processing, and oilfield environmental services.
Stephen R. Dutton
Steve Dutton serves as a principal, Chairman, and advisor to Flatrock Compression. Mr. Dutton is also a principal, board member, and works in a strategic advisory capacity at Stage 3 Separation Services, LLC (O&G & Environmental Services) and WaterFleet, LLC (Oilfield & Industrial Micro-Mobile-Utility).
In addition, he serves as a principal and board member for Jefferson Bank of San Antonio, where he chairs the Compensation and Audit committees. Steve has participated in the formation, ownership, and oversight of over 10 companies in several fields including Energy, Environmental Services, and Real Estate.
Mr. Dutton has taught a senior level entrepreneurship class at Trinity University of San Antonio for 11 years and holds a BA and MBA from Trinity. He is also active in several civic and charitable organizations. He is married to Bea Dutton, and they have two daughters.
Bo Herrin
Bo Herrin got his start in the oil and gas industry as an independent landman in 1983. In 1985, he became a land manager with Tri-C Resources, LLC, an oil and gas exploration company. Tri-C Resources was primarily engaged in exploration areas in the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast region, drilling over 850 wells since its founding in 1985. Moving up through the organization, Mr. Herrin has served as the company’s Executive Vice President since 2015, being engaged in a range of management activities involving land, legal, and marketing.
Mr. Herrin also served on the board of Zephyr Gas Services until its sale to Regency Gas Partners in 2010 and has been on the Board of Stage 3 Separation, LLC since 2011.
Mr. Herrin graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Petroleum Land Management from The University of Texas at Austin in 1983.
Joe R. Peacock, Jr.
Joe R. Peacock, Jr. has more than 30 years experience in the acquisition and sale of oil and gas properties as a partner at Peacock Oil & Gas Properties, Ltd., where he works with geologists, engineers, geophysicists and land personnel to develop oil and gas drilling opportunities. In addition to exploration and development opportunities, Joe has a minerals management consulting business and acquires both producing and non-producing mineral interests for his own account. He also manages investments in commercial real estate and ranching. He is a graduate of Texas Tech University where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in finance.
David W. Murdock
David Murdock has 37 years of experience in the natural gas compression industry. He currently serves as an adviser to equity-backed energy companies specializing in contract compression services and specialty compressor products distribution. For 32 years, David held senior management and leadership positions at Compressor Systems, Inc. including president and chief operating officer. He has served as president of the Gas Compressor Association and has been a board member of numerous other energy industry organizations throughout his career. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas State University.
E. Carey Joullian, IV
Mr. Joullian is President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board of Mustang Fuel Corporation, a privately held company headquartered in Oklahoma City.
Mustang operations include oil and gas exploration and production, as well as natural gas gathering and processing through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Mustang Gas Products.
Mr. Joullian also serves on the Board of Directors of BOK Financial Corporation, where he chairs the Audit Committee. Other boards on which Mr. Joullian serves include M&M Supply, Casady School, Trinity University, and the State Fair of Oklahoma.
Mr. Joullian received a BA in business and history from Trinity University.
Watt R. Matthews
Watt R. Matthews currently serves as Vice President of Investments at Matthews Family Office in Abilene, Texas. From 2010 to 2020, Mr. Matthews worked at Main Street Capital Corporation, a Houston-based investment firm, where he managed a portfolio of credit-related assets across a number of industries, with a focus on the energy, industrial, and financial sectors.
Mr. Matthews is a 2008 graduate of the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin, where he received a BBA in Finance. He graduated from the TCU Ranch Management Program in 2010.
Mr. Matthews previously served on the board of First Financial Trust, an asset management subsidiary of First Financial Bankshares Inc. Today, he is a member of the boards of the Kickapoo Springs Foundation, the Texas Agricultural Land Trust, and Turtle Creek Wealth Advisors
Tyler Freed
Tyler Freed is a Senior Analyst at Thomist Capital, an energy-focused hedge fund. He specializes in analyzing and trading equities and commodities in the upstream oil and gas space. Prior to Thomist, Mr. Freed worked as a petroleum engineer at Apache Corporation.
Well-versed in the full range of Upstream oil and gas activities, Mr. Free worked as a reservoir engineer, production engineer, and completions engineer in the Permian Basin while at Apache.
Mr. Freed holds a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Business Administration from Rice University.
